Wonder Dynamics Rolls Out Beta for Wonder Animation Feature

Wonder Dynamics, an Autodesk company, has announced the beta launch of its latest feature, Wonder Animation, part of the innovative Wonder Studio platform. This groundbreaking feature utilizes cutting-edge AI video-to-3D scene technology, empowering artists to film scenes with any camera, anywhere, and transform those sequences into animated scenes populated with CG characters in immersive 3D environments.

Remember when generative AI started making waves by letting people transform photos into cartoon versions of themselves? Snapchat jumped on the bandwagon with those fun ‘Pixar-style’ filters that turned you into an animated character. But, let’s be honest, those were more about image processing than creating a full-on 3D experience.

Meanwhile, Runway recently introduced a nifty tool called Act-One, which helps artists create expressive character performances using Gen-3 Alpha. With this tool, you can whip up cartoon animations by feeding in video and voice performances, making it easier to produce lively content.

Now, Wonder Dynamics is taking things to the next level with Wonder Animation, focusing on creating 3D content instead of just 2D.

A Game-Changer for 3D Animation

Wonder Studio made waves when it launched as a browser-based platform that let users swap out live-action actors for computer-generated characters. It really showcased how effective AI can be in areas like shading, lighting, and animation.

What’s super cool about Wonder Animation is that it helps you out while you’re filming and editing, handling all sorts of shots—whether they’re wide, medium, or close-ups.

So, once you capture your scene, the AI gets to work reconstructing it in a 3D space, matching the camera’s movements and positioning in relation to the characters and environment. This means you end up with a virtual version of your live-action scene, complete with all the camera setups and character animations in one neat 3D package. While it doesn’t turn the video background into specific 3D objects, it does let you slot Wonder Dynamics’ characters into new environments instead of just layering them over the original footage.

Unlike traditional style transfers, which can feel pretty limiting, Wonder Animation gives you fully editable 3D animations, complete with character animations, lighting, and camera tracking data. And the best part? You can easily load all that into your favorite software like Maya, Blender, or Unreal.

Even with all the buzz around AI, some folks still think it’s a magic one-click fix for everything. But the launch of Wonder Animation shows that Wonder Dynamics is all about helping artists keep control of their creative vision. Unlike most of those black-box generative AI tools out there, their tech encourages you to shape and tweak your work however you see fit.

Get Involved!

The beta version of Wonder Animation is now open to all Wonder Studio users. Co-founder Nikola Todorovic shared his excitement, saying, “We started Wonder Dynamics and created Wonder Studio out of our passion for storytelling and our mission to make VFX accessible to more creators and filmmakers. It’s been five months since we teamed up with Autodesk, and it’s clear that our vision fits perfectly with Autodesk’s goal of pushing innovation in the Media & Entertainment industry.”
