Autodesk has officially released RV Player 2025, the latest version of its industry-standard playback and review tool, widely used across VFX, animation, and content creation studios.
What is RV?
If you work in VFX, animation, or post-production, chances are you’ve already touched RV it’s that little window where supervisors pause, scribble Zoom all over your comp, and say the words “just one more tweak.”
This update introduces a major new Live Review workflow (currently in Beta) alongside significant performance, compatibility, and SDK updates.

Live Review Workflow (Beta)
One of the headline features of RV 2025 is its integration with Autodesk’s Creative Review web app (Beta). With this update, RV users can now join Live Review sessions hosted through the web app, opening the door to more connected, cross-platform collaboration.
Key additions include:
- Participant support in Live Review sessions presented from the Creative Review app.
- Auto-mark annotations on the timeline when in Live Review mode.
- Presenter audio controls, including the ability to mute individuals or mute all participants.
- A new Diagnostic Tool to help troubleshoot Live Review connections.
New Creative Features
RV 2025 adds a range of artist-focused features that streamline creative feedback:
- Hold and Ghost for annotations (also known as onion-skinning) for frame-by-frame comparison.
- Annotation clearing tools to remove all marks from the timeline in one step.
- 120 Hz SDI output timing for Blackmagic hardware.
- High DPI display support on macOS and Linux.
- ProRes hardware decoding optimized for Apple Silicon.
