3D World Magazine Shuts Down After 24 Years

In a significant blow to the 3D and visual effects community, 3D World magazine, a beloved publication with a legacy spanning over two decades, has ceased publication as of October 2024.

Founded in 2000, the magazine was a cornerstone for professionals and enthusiasts in 3D animation, visual effects, video game design, illustration, and architectural visualization. Published by Future plc, 3D World gained international acclaim for its in-depth features, expert training content, and cutting-edge reviews. It was distributed every four weeks in print across the UK, US, mainland Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and beyond. Digital replicas of the magazine were also available for tablet readers, further cementing its global reach.

Fans of the magazine are encouraged to continue exploring 3D-related content on Future plc’s Creative Bloq platform, which will house tutorials, reviews, and features to fuel the passions of 3D enthusiasts.

The final edition, Issue 318, is released. This bittersweet farewell issue offers a wealth of insights, including an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming animated film The Wild Robot, renowned for its stunning visual aesthetic. The issue also delves into the making of HBO’s spy thriller The Sympathizer, featuring techniques like cloning Robert Downey Jr. and creating jaw-dropping fire effects.

For many, 3D World was more than just a magazine—it was a gateway into the ever-evolving universe of 3D artistry. Its closure marks the end of an era, but its legacy will undoubtedly inspire future creators for years to come.

“Remember this magazine. It was one of the greats!”
