Silhouette 2025 released with Powerful AI Features

Boris FX Silhouette is celebrating 20 years as a top software tool for paint and rotoscope work in visual effects. With its new version, Silhouette 2025, the company has added many AI-based features that aim to make work faster, easier, and better for artists.

What’s New in Silhouette 2025

One of the main new tools is Matte Refine ML, which uses artificial intelligence to turn rough edges in mattes into smooth and clean outlines. This helps artists create high-quality animated mattes quickly. The best part is that this happens locally on your machine, with no need for an internet connection.

The update also allows users to load 3D scenes directly using Alembic or FBX files. This helps in creating advanced paint and rotoscope workflows using 3D cards and Unproject-Reproject methods.

Another smart tool, PowerMesh Morph, uses tracking data from Mocha to automatically fill in clean frames using AI. This saves a lot of manual touch-up work.

Frame FixerML repairs broken or damaged frames using AI and connects paint data to create smooth changes without the need for tracking.

Depth MapML creates depth maps from flat 2D images, making it easier to add effects or depth to a scene.

A new feature called Compound Nodes lets artists combine multiple nodes into one neat package, making complex node networks easier to manage and share across teams.

All AI features in Silhouette 2025 work completely offline, which means users can work with full privacy.
