Technicolor Group is Shutting down After failing to secure new investors.

The current shutdown has sent shockwaves through the VFX community, with many expressing sadness over the loss of a key player in visual storytelling.

This sudden collapse leaves high-profile films like Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” and Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” in limbo, as their visual effects were being handled by Technicolor’s MPC studio.

Additionally, Mikros Animation’s work on the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” sequel is now uncertain.

CEO Caroline Parot informed employees that, despite extensive efforts, the company couldn’t find new backers and has filed for court-led recovery in France.

This move affects thousands of VFX artists across the U.S., UK, Canada, and India. In the U.S., about 100 staff from The Mill are teaming up with Dream Machine FX to form a new venture, Arc Creative.

Technicolor has faced financial struggles before, including a Chapter 15 bankruptcy filing in 2020 and selling its post-production unit to Streamland Media in 2021.

Studios are now scrambling to find alternatives to complete their projects, as the industry grapples with the fallout from the collapse of this century-old institution.
