No Agreement Reached as Animation Guild Continue Contract Talks

The Animation Guild and Hollywood studios have scheduled additional negotiation dates in September after a week of talks ended without an agreement, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The union, representing over 5,000 animation workers, and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers had set aside one week to reach a new three-year contract, but failed to do so by the end of Friday. The ongoing negotiations are crucial as the union seeks to address issues like AI regulation and outsourcing, which are seen as existential threats to the industry.

The talks come amid rising unemployment in the sector, with layoffs at major studios like Netflix Animation and DreamWorks Animation affecting about a third of the union’s members over the past year. Negotiations started on Monday at the AMPTP offices in Sherman Oaks.
